Start here. Whether you are a first-year undergraduate or incoming graduate student, complete the FAFSA sooner rather than later. The FAFSA determines your eligibility for federal grants, loans and work study. It is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. On the FAFSA, be sure to list Temple University’s FAFSA code: 003371.

Apply for Tyler Grants + Scholarships by Submitting a Portfolio.

For undergraduate students only. Show us who you are, boldly, by submitting a digital portfolio by Feb. 1 at the latest. Your portfolio should include 8-12 pieces of your best, most-innovative finished work completed within the last two years. Tips: We highly recommend including one drawing in your mix. You can also submit sketchbooks and in-progress pieces as portfolio supplements.

Portfolio FAQs

Do I need to submit a portfolio?

Depends. If you are a first-year student looking to major in Studio Art, Design and Illustration, Art Education, Art History, Visual studies or Art Therapy, submit a portfolio for admission by Feb. 1.

Doing so automatically qualifies you for merit scholarship consideration. Tip: Students in any Tyler major can submit portfolios for scholarship consideration. We especially encourage Architecture and Environmental Design students to submit portfolios.

Can I get an unofficial portfolio review before it’s due?

Yes, please! Let our admissions team preview your undergraduate portfolio. This can help you understand where there might be gaps and which pieces might already be in great shape. Tip: The unofficial portfolio review can also give you a real confidence boost.

What’s National Portfolio Day?

Every fall Tyler School of Art and Architecture sends representatives to National Portfolio Days in Philadelphia, New York City, New Jersey, Boston, Hartford, Florida, Washington, D.C. and Maryland to provide portfolio reviews.

What if I don’t meet the Feb. 1 portfolio deadline?

Unfortunately, we can’t consider you for a portfolio award if that’s the case.

Graduate Fellowships, Assistantships and Grants

We offer a range of merit-based scholarships, assistantships, fellowships and grants to graduate students based on merit, need and fit.

If you submit required materials and complete admissions applications by the Jan. 6 deadline, we automatically consider you for funding opportunities – no separate application needed. Be sure to apply on time to take advantage of funding opportunities.

Abigail Long (LArch ’21)

Today, Long is a Landscape Designer at Andropogon Associates in Philadelphia.

Tyler School of Art and Architecture Landscape Architecture graduate Abigail Long (LArch ’21) received the prestigious Landscape Architecture Foundation’s 2021 Olmsted Scholarship, which recognizes students who are working to advance sustainable design and benefit society. Long received her scholarship for her project to develop accessible outdoor classroom design models for use by school districts, schools, teachers and policymakers.

“I am ecstatic! Being selected as the National Olmsted Scholar is a sign to keep pushing forward, to continue to learn, and to continue to look for more opportunities of how I can be of use in landscape architecture to create a better world.”
